A butterfly valve is a valve in which a closing part is a disc that rotates around the valve shaft to open and close, and is mainly used for cutting and throttling on the pipeline.

Butterfly valves are used in a wide range of applications and are suitable for flow regulation. Because the butterfly valve has a large pressure loss in the pipeline, it is about three times that of the gate valve. Therefore, when selecting a butterfly valve, the influence of the pressure loss of the piping system should be fully considered.

The butterfly valve has the characteristics of simple structure, small volume, light weight, material consumption, small installation size, rapid switch, 90° reciprocating rotation, small driving torque, etc. It is used to cut off, connect and adjust the medium in the pipeline.

Butterfly valves are like ball valves however have a few focal points. They are small and when activated pneumatically, they open and close rapidly. The plate is lighter than a ball, and the valve requires less structural backing than a ball valve of equivalent distance across.
