The opening and closing part of the gate valve is called the gate. The gate is opened and closed with the valve stem lifting and lowering. The direction of the damper movement of the gate valve is perpendicular to the direction of the circulating medium in the valve body. The gate valve can only be fully open or fully closed, and can only be used as a truncated medium in the pipeline. When the gate valve is fully open, the fluid resistance in the valve body is less than the butterfly valve.
The butterfly valve can be used for both cut-off and flow regulation. The scope of application is wider than that of gate valves. The butterfly valve is quickly opened and closed, and can be opened and closed frequently. Therefore, the butterfly valve is the first choice in the working condition where the opening and closing speed is required or the opening and closing is frequent. Under the same caliber condition, the shape of the butterfly valve is smaller and lighter. In the working condition with limited installation space, the choice of the wafer type butterfly valve will save space. Butterfly valves of the same diameter are also cheaper than gate valves in terms of price.
Because of gate valve own structure, the gate valve has a smaller flow resistance than the butterfly valve, and its sealing performance is better than that of the butterfly valve. The on/off of the gate valve is laborious, and the opening and closing speed is slow. It is not suitable for use in occasions requiring frequent operation or emergency cut-off, and the gate valve can only be fully open and fully closed, and cannot be used for regulating flow. Therefore, the gate valve is mostly used for the cut-off of pipes that are strictly required for sealing performance and do not need to be frequently opened and closed. Not suitable for adjusting the parameters of the pipeline medium.
The gate valve has strong adaptability and can be used in high temperature, low temperature, high pressure and low pressure conditions. In steam pipes and large-diameter water supply pipes, gate valves are suitable due to the high sealing performance and small fluid resistance.
